How to Maintain Your Hair Nice and Healthy

How to Maintain Your Hair Nice and Healthy

Our hair is probably the most important thing to us, next to our skin. In order for us to keep and maintain our long, thick, and healthy hair the way it is, we gotta keep up with it! Maintenance is probably the most important thing you can do for your hair and yourself. If you want to keep your tresses nice and smooth for longer periods of time, then get started on a haircare routine that’s gonna do just that.

But you gotta really keep up with it. It’s just like going to the gym, if ya ya wanna see results, you gotta be consistent. Same goes for your hair- especially if it’s already going through a rough patch.

Trim it

We know you don’t wanna hear it, but it’s the cold, hard truth. And we like to give it to you straight, no cutting corners (unless it’s your hair). Getting it periodically trimmed by a professional not only aids with the growth, but it keeps it healthy. Which, sounds counterproductive when you’re trying to grow it out, but trust us on this one. If your hair isn’t trimmed every so often, the split ends will eventually keep splitting all the way to the root of your hair, and breaking it, instead of growing. That’s why those with brittle hair and dead ends seeking length can’t seem to catch a break. Their hair is breaking faster than it’s growing. So do your hair a favor, and get it trimmed by a professional.

Cleanse with quality products

We always stress the importance of quality over quantity. Why? because it’s what’s in the ingredients that truly does the job. When shampooing, pay attention to your scalp, not so much your ends. And when you’re conditioning, make sure you focus on the ends and mid-sections, and try to avoid the scalp (or else it could look greasier faster).  With products that contain organic ingredients, and are free of chemicals, you’ll be one step ahead of the game.

Hair oils

This may also seem counterproductive, especially if you have an oily scalp. But hair oils added to your ends with help nourish them immensely. It is probably one of the most effective ways to keep your hair healthy. Oils rich in vitamins and proteins does wonders for your locks, and you’ll be wondering why you didn’t try this sooner rather than later.
Try applying a little coconut, almond, or olive oil to your scalp and strands regularly. If you have thin/straight hair, apply an essential oil like coconut oil to your hair before shampoos and skip the regular applications. Your hair type is more susceptible to oil, so an overabundance of oil will make it appear weighed down. If you have kinky/dry hair, apply oil when hair is wet to seal in moisture. Because your hair tends to be drier, oil helps the hair retain its moisture, keeping it from breakage. You won’t believe the results: soft, manageable, healthy hair. We can assure you that you won’t be disappointed.

Handle with care (and lots of love)

You need to handle your hair with a lot of care. Use a brush with wide bristles to comb your hair. Wet hair should be combed gently as strands are very weak compared to dry hair. Handle strands with great care to ensure you do not overstretch them, causing breakage in the process. Brush your hair daily, preferably twice a day and do the brushing from the bottom up. And stay away from rubber-based hair ties. Scrunchies are the move.

With these simple steps, your hair will go from drab to fab in no time. But you gotta do it frequently, or else you won’t see the results as fast, and it won’t last as long.

XOXO,

PIAM.
